Carrie the Dog needs a home

Female, 9 years old, ~35 lbs

Approximate Age:  9 years

Approximate Weight/Size:  Medium

Good with: Dogs, Kids

Carrie is a sweet and loving dog.  Her owner suddenly passed away and she needs to be placed with her sister, Jazzy. Carrie and Jazzy are both good dogs who are leash trained and house trained.  They have great temperaments and are not hyper in any way.  They can't wait to find another loving home where they can be together and give the rest of the love they have to give!

From their foster:

"Sweet, gentle Carrie knows life is full of miracles.  Nearly three years ago RDR saved her from a shelter that considered her physical condition too shocking for the public and intended to euthanize her without ever offering her for adoption.  After RDR provided surgery to remove a large benign tumor, treatment of severe Lyme disease, and TLC added some much-needed weight, Carrie was adopted by a wonderful woman, joining her fur-sister, miniature poodle mix Jazzy.  After over two years of happiness, Carrie’s beloved owner died, leaving her and Jazzy in search of another miracle - a new human who will heal her broken heart. Although she was very depressed when she came to RDR this second time, Carrie is starting to show glimmers of the happy, bouncy, silly hound she is underneath the sorrow she is currently experiencing. We’re looking for a home and a heart with room for both Jazzy and Carrie, so this sweet girl can see that life has one more miracle in store for her."

RDR is
waiving the adoption fee for these two dogs and asking only for a donation in memory of their owner.

Adoption Process: In order to adopt, we require an adoption application. After you submit an application, if you pass the screening, we will contact you to schedule a phone interview. We will call your references, including your veterinarian and landlord (when appropriate). We will also conduct a home visit. After these steps are complete, you will be approved to adopt a dog. Please note this process takes 1-2 weeks so applications submitted when you are ready to bring a dog home within that time frame. You can meet our adoptable dogs at events, however, we cannot guarantee that dogs at events do not have pre-approved applicants meeting them there as well, so the application is the best way to start the process.

Mission Statement: Forever true to “The Underdog”, Rural Dog Rescue is dedicated to saving the lives of dogs in shelters who are often overlooked for adoption or rescue. We save the dogs who are at most risk of being euthanized: the hounds, the black dogs, the seniors, the sick and the broken.  We make a commitment to reserve a minimum of 50% of the dogs we save to The Underdog. Root For The Underdog!

Rural Dog Rescue's home base is in Washington, DC. We adopt to the Washington, DC metropolitan area to include Maryland and Northern Virginia.

We support several high kill shelters that euthanize in 72 hours and whose kill rate is 70% or higher in rural areas of Virginia, West Virginia, North and South Carolina.  Rural Dog Rescue also helps dogs in need in Washington, DC and Maryland.

We are 100% volunteer and foster based and no salaries are paid.  100% of your donation and adoption fee goes to helping the dogs and cats of Rural Dog Rescue.

Although we try to be as accurate as possible, Rural Dog Rescue cannot guarantee the breed or full-grown adult size of any of the dogs or puppies in its care. Because many of these dogs were found as strays or are the result of irresponsible, unplanned breeding, we do not know the dog's exact background and can only list breed and size by our best educated guess. If exact breed and size are important to you, please consider adopting a dog from a specific breed rescue. Our goal is for our dogs to be adopted by people who will love and care for them forever for who they are - no matter what breed and size they turn out to be!

All dogs go to their new homes spayed or neutered, up to date on all shots, dewormed (although a second deworming may be required), started on heartworm and flea and tick preventative and sometimes microchipped.
